Art Explorations is the first semester of a year long art program. The following second semester will be from one of the following visual arts courses: Ceramics 1, Drawing/Painting 1, Photography 1, Graphic Design, and Architecture 1. Students will stay with the same art teacher through the year. This year-long sequence satisfies the District's and UC's 10-unit Fine Art graduation requirement. It is recommended for freshmen or sophomore level students.
Art Explorations provides the prerequisite skills and understandings needed for all visual arts electives. It introduces the student to various forms of artistic expression such as drawing, painting, graphic design and three dimensional design. Students are introduced to foundational ideas about artistic process, critique, and being a responsible member of the studio classroom environment. The course also emphasizes the importance of art for personal expression, as well as its importance as a cultural element in society.
