Ap Studio Art: DRAWING PORTFOLIO
Concentration:
What is the central idea of your concentration? The central idea of my concentration is to examine identity through interrupted self portraits using transparent and reflective materials. My concentration vocalizes my relationship with myself, and how others perceive me.
How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. In my concentration, my goal was to explore self- image. I began with a distorted composition through a misty mirror, which I felt exemplified the convoluted nature of self- expression. I developed this idea with new interrupted self portraits in which I referenced reflective surfaces, which were symbolic of the dichotomy between self perception and social perception. In image 4, I started exploring color. Using washes of watercolor, primarily greens, reds, and blues, I depicted the dynamic between my face and the interrupting surfaces more clearly. I brought in new transparent materials including water, plastic, and stained glass in several other images. I utilized these distorting materials to convey the confusion and ambiguity of self-perception. As my work progressed, I began using finer details in my technical skills, like in image 12, and developed my use of contrast. |
