Concentration:
What is the central idea of your concentration?
The central idea of my concentration statement is to explore the role that specific places play in a period of change or transformation. I am working with portraying particular places as well as the personal impact that they have had on my life. How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. I chose to work with watercolor because of the characteristics that it has. For example, the way that colors can be layered and the concentration of color that can form at the edge of a brushstroke or shape are two important aspects of this medium that I use in my art. This makes it possible to bring attention to the edges of particular shapes and objects in my work which is important for the exploration of my concentration. My focus on everyday objects and settings, especially subject matter of liminal spaces, helps to portray both the particular place as well as the personal impact that it has had. The technique of drawing attention to edges and borders through watercolor and the thin line of white paper between some shapes and objects symbolizes liminal space in different ways by showing a transition. I use a range of colors because they can be combined within a work to convey a feeling or emotion associated with the subject. |
